Bags of Wool
When I recently visited this location, I was thrilled to find that the shot I took years ago was still there, but got even beter over time. One of my favorite places in this abandoned factory where they used to wash wool, is this this room in the attic.
Spiral Eye
This is a photo of one of the most beautiful abandoned spiral staircases I have seen. I was recently in the area of this building and decided to drop by to see if it was still open. Glad to see it was, so I was able to finally see it with my own eyes. The staircase is part of the house that’s attached to an abandoned farm.
Piano on the Floor
A beautiful piano, covered in dust, lying on the floor in a room of an abandoned farm.
Neoclassical
This is a photo of a beautiful room that is part of a villa. The villa was designed by a well known architect of that time, and built over 100 years ago. The villa is surrounded by a huge park, and has a breathtaking view.
Spiral Stairs
This is a photo of an amazing staircase in a building that’s actually still in use, and took us weeks to find. Once at the door of the building, we were welcomed by a resident that happily let us in and do our thing. I was so thrilled to finally see the staircase in person.
Greenhouse Neo
This is a photo taken in the greenhouse of a beautiful abandoned villa. The villa was built as a wedding gift at the end of the 19th century. The architect used his typical Neo-Renaissance style throughout the property. An important subject of the building is that all views out of the windows of the building, had to have the same worthiness. Therefor, the surrounding park got a lot of attention as well.
Due to rapid family expansion, the building soon ran out of space and had to be extended. This happened a few years after the initial construction, most likely by a different architect.
The architecture of the greenhouse and the villa was very impressive, and I loved exploring the buildings.
Marble Staircase
In a small town, halfway through the country, this marble staircase is found in a beautiful castle. The castle, showing signs of renovation attempts, was used as a summer or holiday residence for a couple living in the North, as told by a lovely old woman living nearby. She was most likely in her 80’s and invited me into her home to talk about the castle, show me photos, and give me a kiss and a hug when I left.
Sammezzano
The detail of the decoration in this room is beyond amazing.
The Castle of Sammezzano is a rare example of eclectic and Moorish architecture in Europe. Over the second half of the 19th century, this formerly medieval castle was transformed into a fine example of the Orientalist fashion by Marchese Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximenes d’Aragona. Ferdinando was influenced by several Eastern trends, focusing on two particular styles: Arabic-Moorish, with its white “intertwined ropes” of stucco, and Indo-Persian, characterized by strong polychromatic colours. Following the Second World War, the castle became a luxury hotel. However, for over 25 years the site has been unoccupied and neglected with its ownership remaining insecure. As a result, broken windows have gone unmended and leaking roofs unrepaired, which in turn led to severe water damage and major deterioration of the fabric of the building. The lack of security has laid the site bare to thefts and vandalism.
Villa
Visiting this location was a highlight of one of my trips in Italy. Expectations weren’t too high but I was very surprised to see the beauty of each individual floor.
This is one of the hallways on the outer side of the building. Each floor has a hallway that looks like this with beautiful soft colors and arches.
Blue Staircase
This is a photo that I’ve taken in a large and abandoned palace. The blue staircase was one of the only interesting things inside that I photographed. Other than this it was fairly empty. However, the architecture of the building and this staircase makes it worth all the effort.
Kitchen
A kitchen in a beautiful abandoned Italian villa.
Horse Statue
An abandoned castle with a beautiful statue inside. The room has amazing decoration, and is a joy to the eye.
Plants on the Floor

Lightbeam
A beautiful room in an abandoned farm in Italy with an impressive fresco covering each wall and ceiling.
Former Chapel
At the end of the 19th century this beautiful, and now abandoned, chapel was built. The architect promised to design a chapel in old Gothic style, and lived up to that promise. The chapel is surrounded by an immense garden. Nature is clearly taking over.
Windowed Room
This is a photo that I’ve taken inside of an abandoned villa that’s been built in the early 20th century. It has 4 levels and is characterized by great architectural details. The view across the village from this room was amazing.

Pripyat Pool
This is a photo of the abandoned swimming pool in Pripyat – Ukraine.
Piano in the Dust
This is a photo of a room in a very impressive abandoned palace. It’s a massive building which is currently under renovation (exterior and interior).
The original building was built in the 13th century but in the 17th century the palace was expanded and transformed into a residency. It has had many different owners and in the 19th century it was uninhabited for several years. At the very end of this same century a wealthy American bought the palace as a wedding gift for his daughter. They invested a lot of money in repairing the castle and bringing back its former glory. During the 2nd World War the palace was used as an archive facility and was therefor heavily guarded. It didn’t suffer any damage during the war. After the war it was used as a sanatorium for children.
Southern Greenhouse
This photo is taken in the greenhouse of a beautiful abandoned castle. There were a lot of pianos in the castle which are now stored away somewhere safe while renovations tend to start. There hasn’t been a lot of progress yet, but I’m sure it will eventually complete. People have great plans with this amazing place.
Simca
This is a photo of an awesome abandoned car I photographed a while ago. It’s lovely how the moss is taking over the frame. The car was on a terrain where I also found a huge wine cellar, which I will show you later. Little to no history did I find unfortunately about it.
Control
This is a beautiful abandoned control room built in art-deco style. One of a kind. This is the winning photo of the Art of Building – 2016 contest.
Piled
This is a photo in a building that’s been opened in the early 20th century. The place was a refuge for children that needed preventive care for lung disease. The building is located on a hill about 600m high and was surrounded by healthy air. It has now been abandoned for tens of years and is decaying heavily. This is one of those places that I had great fun exploring it. The decay was amazing and there was a lot more to see than I expected.
p.s. have you checked out my article about abandoned bedrooms yet? Check it out on the link below:

Testing Facility
This is shot in an abandoned animal testing facility in Italy.

Yellow Car
I found this Fiat in an abandoned garage next to a derelict villa somewhere in Italy.
Living Goal
This is a photo that I’ve taken on the balcony of an abandoned villa that’s considered to be an artistic masterpiece. Various architectural styles have been combined into one building. The villa has been a house to several lucky owners, a prison in World War II and even a school. Nowadays the municipality owns the complex. It seems that renovation works have started but are taking quite a long time.
This building is one of those places that I could easily imagine myself living in. The view from this balcony is breathtaking and the area is beautiful.
Magnificent Ballroom
This is a photo in what was once the most glorious building of Romania but since 1990 it’s been abandoned and slowly but surely falling apart. The building is now listed as a historic monument by the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs of Romania. Check out my blog for more info.
Balance
This is a photo of a room in an abandoned hotel. The hotel is abandoned for many years and in a very bad state. As you can see in this picture the beds nearly fell through the floor because it’s rotten.
I carefully walked into the room trying to take this picture, and I squeezed myself in the corner. While taking the picture a bat flew in and made a few circles in the room. During the trip I walked into several bats on different locations, and I’m scared of them. I wanted to escape but couldn’t make a run for it on a floor like this, haha. So I sat in the corner not making any sound and not moving a muscle, hoping the bat would go away (it did by the way).
Corkscrew
This is a photo of an amazing staircase in an abandoned building that had several functions. It was built in the early 20th century and the architect was inspired by transportation. It’s been abandoned for over 30 years.
In Control
The power plant itself is over a 100 years old providing power to a large city nearby. It is partially still in use, but this control room has been abandoned for quite some time.
Ruin-ed
This is a photo of a beautiful abandoned church, which is now a ruin, that has been built around 1970. It’s a shame to see it in this state. I’m quite sure it must have been beautiful when it was still being used. The blue tones give it a sweet look.
The building is completely being taken over by nature, as you can see in the picture. Planks that fell down from the ceiling were lying here and there with rusty nails in it. My friend warned me not to step on them. About 2 minutes later I felt one of these nails entering my shoe, nearly piercing my foot. Glad that didn’t happen! 😉
Swimming Pool
This is a photo of a lovely swimming pool in an abandoned hotel somewhere in Germany. Still one of my favorite locations today. The decay inside was lovely. Must have been such a great place back in the days when it was still active.
Office
This is a beautiful abandoned farmhouse filled with a lot of antique furniture and amazing objects. Some of these objects indicate the owner left around a year ago, which is nearly unbelievable considering the state the house is in. I took this photo in a room which was most likely an office.
Ballroom
This is one of the amazing rooms (where people used to party) of a beautiful castle in Poland that has been built somewhere between the 14th and 16th century. The castle has had many owners. In the 19th century the building suffered from a big fire causing the need to become reconstructed. In its last years it served as a school. Many famous guests visited the castle, including one of the former presidents of the USA.
The first time visiting this place, about 3 years ago, we were unable to find an entrance. Luckily we ran into a very helpful guy who happened to be the son of the major of the town. He called his dad and he quickly came trying to help us. Unfortunately even the major of the town couldn’t get us in. Glad I’ve been able to see the interior years later.
